Two episodes, one topic: Rape Culture. In July and August, Laia Abril, artist, and Ainhoa Achutegui, director of the Abbaye Neimënster, explore this theme. The mini-series begins with Laia Abril and her project “A History of Misogyny”.
This is the first of two episodes about the complex topic Rape Culture: a term used to describe behaviors that include victim blaming, slut-shaming, sexual objectification, the trivializing of rape, denial of widespread rape, refusing to acknowledge the harm caused by sexualized violence, and the combination of these aspects.
In July, multidisciplinary artist Laia Abril talks about how she approaches the theme as an artist; in August, Ainhoa Achutegui, director of the Abbaye Neimënster, will highlight the role of cultural institutions in the fight against Rape Culture in the artistic field.
Back to Laia Abril: She is currently showing her exhibition “On Rape” in the Abbaye Neimënster in Luxembourg city. It is part of her long-term project called “A History of Misogyny”, which started in 2016. The project is divided into the chapters “On Abortion”, “On Rape” and “On Mass Hysteria”. “On Rape” aims to discuss institutional Rape Culture in societies around the world.
